Education & Kids
Did you know that female chickens called hens produce an egg every 24 hours? That means you can have one for breakfast every day!
During the past, many Australian families kept their own flock of hens and produced enough eggs for their own needs.
Modern egg production is a commercial business carried out on family-owned and corporate egg farms. There are about 480 commercial egg producers in Australia who manufacture tasy eggs for us to enjoy.
There are three main systems of modern commercial egg production - cage, free range and barn. Some people still keep flocks of hens and produce their own eggs at home. This system of egg production is known as backyard production.
